BBSG Welcomed World-class Children's Choir
26 Apr 2024
Nearly 40 years ago, the world-renowned musician and choir conductor, Nicolas Porte, founded an extraordinary children's choir in Lyon, France.
Over two decades, they embarked on captivating journeys across Spain, the United States, Canada, Japan, and more, becoming an integral cultural symbol of Lyon. Their international fame skyrocketed after their appearance in the film "Les Choristes" (The Chorus).
During the "Sino-French Year of Cultural Tourism," Nicolas Porte and the choir visited BBSG with a world-class choral concert. The BBSG Recital Hall was filled with the heavenly sounds of beloved movie soundtracks and timeless choral masterpieces performed in Chinese, English, French, Japanese, and even Native American languages. The audience, completely captivated, erupted in resounding applause. The concert climaxed with an unexpected encore performance of the nationwide sensation "Braveheart," leaving the students and teachers in a joyous chorus.
This extraordinary choir is none other than the renowned St. Mark Children's Chamber Choir from France. Their enchanting interpretations of popular melodies like "Beauty and the Beast" and "Castle in the Sky," as well as their signature compositions such as "Douce France" and "Chanter La Terre," have left an indelible mark on the BBSG Recital Hall. Let's relish this extraordinary experience through the following video.
Coincidentally, the choir's visit aligned with the first day of BBSG's signature "Enquiry Week," providing BBSG students with a unique opportunity for Sino-French cultural exchanges with our French peers.
During the "Eliminating Poverty" unit of the UNSDG, the choir members engaged in one-on-one discussions with BBSG students, delving into the topic of economic inequality and the significance of eliminating poverty across different countries and contexts.
As gracious hosts, BBSG students warmly welcomed our guests and took them on an immersive tour of our state-of-the-art campus and education hub. Can you guess which space our French visitors loved the most?
In just half a day of vibrant exchange activities, BBSG students relished the precious opportunity to learn from world-class artists and their peers. Through profound cultural and musical exchanges, they developed global perspectives and fostered understanding and respect for diverse cultures. These experiences will undoubtedly prepare them to be future-ready on the global stage.
We look forward to the return of the St Mark Children's Chamber Choir for more musical activities with BBSG students, creating new harmonious memories.
