Growth

This was BBSG's second year participating in the GBA Cup, and our athletes demonstrated impressive progress across all events.

Last year, our newly formed football team failed to reach the semi-finals. However, after a year of dedicated training, they showed tremendous growth in both skills and teamwork. They won their first two matches (4-1 and 6-0) and ultimately secured a strong fourth-place finish.

Coach Melo commented, “This tournament was not only a challenge of athletic ability but also of mental resilience. Our athletes kept their composure in the face of easy victories, tight matches, or trailing in scores. I look forward to even better results in the future.”

In tennis, Jowett Z (Grade 5) made history by earning BBSG’s first medal at the tournament. “He trains three hours every day after school,” said his mother proudly. Ms. Denies Jiang, his homeroom teacher, also came to support him over the weekend. She remarked, “Such an intensive level of training requires immense perseverance. His solid skills have given him confidence at the court, and we can see him improving in every match. This medal is a testament to his hard work.”

The Golf Tournament was the final event of the GBA Cup, and Andy W (Grade 5) won the individual championship and helped his team secure third place overall. He shared his thoughts on the win: “I didn’t overthink it during the competition. My opponents were tough, so I focused on playing each shot to the best of my ability. I didn’t expect to win in the end.”

Resilience

On the tennis courts, Annie W (Grade 4) faced the tournament champion. She fought through the match despite the skill gap, earning respect and admiration from her opponent's team. “At least she tried,” they said, applauding her perseverance.

Additionally, BBSG’s squash players made their debut at the GBA Cup. After just a few months of training in the Squash ECA, Jacky earned an impressive fourth place. We also saw the girls' basketball team come together for their first competition, seizing every opportunity to gain match experience. Meanwhile, the boys' basketball team doubled their training hours in preparation for the GBA Cup. Even against professional-level opponents, BBSG athletes demonstrated remarkable resilience and sportsmanship. These athletes' dedication, hard work, and teamwork have helped BBSG achieve its best-ever results at the GBA Cup.

More than just a competition, the GBA Cup was also an invaluable opportunity for exchange. Through these matches, our students not only learned how to handle competitive pressure and stay composed in adversity but also absorbed strategies and techniques from their opponents. They built friendships with athletes from other schools, gaining fresh perspectives and enhancing their teamwork and interpersonal skills.
