BBSG Students Conquer the Gobi

As dawn broke over the Gobi Desert, three daring BBSG students embarked on an ancient path once traversed by the legendary Buddhist monk Xuanzang. The three-day challenge was a journey that redefined courage and personal growth.

Meet Our Brave Explorers

These young adventurers participated in the 3rd Xuanzang Road International Youth Gobi Challenge, a programme honoured with the UNESCO World Heritage Education Innovation Case Award. After months of training and city races, they joined fellow competitors in Gansu Province during the May holiday for the ultimate test: a 72-kilometre desert trek for secondary students and a 68-kilometre journey for primary students.

The scorching gravel and endless dunes tested their perseverance. Alongside young adventurers aged 8 to 18 from over 100 prestigious international schools across more than ten countries and regions, our students traversed the diverse terrain of the Gobi — desert, grassland, and lakes — while forging international friendships. Among our three successful BBSG challengers, special recognition goes to Breezy W, our youngest participant from Grade 2 demonstrated remarkable perseverance by completing the gruelling 68-kilometre trek. Her extraordinary achievement exemplifies our BBSG value of Courage. When the finish line finally appeared through the sandstorm, their cheers celebrated not just completion, but a deeper understanding of “Action, Cooperation, and Service.”
