BBSG Science Fair

05 Dec 2025

In an era of rapid technological progress, "Be Future World Ready" challenges us to think beyond just technical skills - to consider how technology shapes humanity and our world.

Inspired by the BBSG Signature Programme "AI for Humanity", this year’s Science Fair centred on Technology for Good. The event provided a platform for students to showcase nearly 100 original projects, engage with cutting-edge technology, and explore how curiosity, creativity, and compassion can drive innovation to create a better world.

A Showcase of Innovation and Inspiration

From Stationery Parking Lot to Machinery Hands, Water Wheels to Transport Robots, the Science Fair was a vibrant celebration of scientific creativity.

Students exchanged ideas with peers about their creative projects, fostering a collaborative spirit

“We encouraged students to develop an idea they were genuinely curious about, rather than assigning a set task,” explains Mr. Jonathon Barry, Junior Secondary Science Lead. Teachers acted as mentors, empowering students to lead their own scientific investigations.

Through the full process of Question – Hypothesis – Variables – Data Collection – Result Analysis – Conclusion, students applied classroom knowledge to real projects, honing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

A Taste of Cutting-Edge Technology

The Fair also featured exclusive exhibits from HKUST(GZ), including a Retroverse Bike and a balancing machine designed to help the elderly, particularly those with Alzheimer’s, regain motor skills. Another highlight was an AI project reviving the endangered Dongba script through digital art.

A group of BBSG students visited the NICE (Novel IC Exploration Central Facility) at HKUST(GZ), where they met researchers face-to-face - their first glimpse of world-class semiconductor testing equipment and national research facilities. This experience connected their personal interests with broader topics in national technological development, providing both academic inspiration and career insights.

At Victoria Shanghai Academy, students were not just visitors but active participants in their Science Fair event - attending Science classes, sharing their projects during the "Shaping GBA’s Future" forum, and engaging in panel discussions and workshops. These interactions helped build cross-cultural communication skills that are vital for the region’s innovative future.

Mr. Johnny Guo, BBSG STEAM Innovation Lead and co-leader of the Science Fair, shared his insights on the theme of Technology for Good at the end of the event:

"Beyond the joy of creation, we want students to see the bigger picture — to stay innovative in a world of constant change, to carry social responsibility with compassion, and to harness technology for the betterment of humanity. Our goal is to empower each student to shape a future where everyone can live with dignity, health, and happiness in the digital age."

This vision will continue to inspire and guide every BBSG student’s journey in scientific innovation.
