An Artistic Celebration for the Year of the Horse
12 Feb 2026
How do young minds interpret the Year of the Horse?
Through sculpture, watercolour, and imagination, BBSG students have created their unique artistic visions, breathing new life into traditional symbols.
Our Visual Arts Department launched the "Fire Horse" themed competition at the beginning of the academic year. After a semester of diverse artistic exploration and technical learning, students produced remarkable pieces that showcase both imagination and creativity. Their works brilliantly merge the festive spirit of the Chinese New Year with BBSG's holistic approach to artistic education.
From Primary to Secondary, BBSG students have enjoyed a cross-disciplinary journey. Twelve winning pieces created BBSG's special 2026 community calendar, distributed to every student and teacher as we step into the new year, celebrating our community's creative journey.

Our youngest artists connected personal emotions and stories with the horse theme, creating works full of innocence and vitality.

Students explored watercolour techniques like colour gradients and layering, as well as mixed material sculpture. These pieces uniquely combine Native American symbolism with traditional Chinese storytelling structures, with each horse telling its own story of adventure.

Grade 7 students transformed mythological horses into pixel art game characters, recreating them as large-scale mixed-media installations - an impressive journey from digital to physical art.

Meanwhile, Grade 8 students embraced abstract expression, studying "Wind Horse" to convey concepts of journey and hope through non-figurative textures and colours, demonstrating remarkable philosophical depth.

In Design & Technology, students from Grades 6-8 transformed their creative concepts into tangible, functional objects. Through hands-on product design, they learned to bridge imagination and practicality, creating everyday items that are both innovative and useful.
Grade 6: Ceramic works inspired by Xu Beihong's famous horse paintings.
Grade 7: Original horse-pattern jacket designs.
Grade 8: Creative New Year table lamps incorporating horse elements.

Each piece reflects our students' unique perspectives and interpretations, demonstrating how traditional cultural symbols can be reimagined through contemporary art education.
At BBSG, art education goes beyond creative expression - it cultivates perception, cultural understanding, and innovative thinking as essential elements of A Complete Education. In an age where AI can mass-produce visual content at a click, genuine creativity becomes even more precious. It's not just the source of art - it's a reminder of what makes us uniquely human.
As we welcome the New Year, these vibrant artworks carry our wishes for the BBSG family:
May the Year of the Horse bring you
dynamic energy, endless inspiration,
and success in all your endeavours.
