BBSG Student Spotlight Series: EP06
● From Editor
Noah is the second student to ever enrol at BBSG. On the basketball court, he is the fierce shooter; in the dorms, he is a "boarding ambassador" who inspired his friends to join him.
In this Grade 3 student, we see the true impact of A Complete Education—where a personal passion becomes a powerful tool for growth.

Basketball Spirit:
Beyond the Court
Noah has been playing basketball since he was three. He speaks with the expertise of a seasoned commentator about the NBA’s 30 teams and their star players. His room is filled with posters of NBA stars and medals from various tournaments.

These medals represent more than just talent; they are badges of honour for enduring practices. Noah has maintained a rigorous training schedule since the age of three: dribbling drills, shooting practice, defensive tactics, and strength conditioning. His mother has cleverly turned his love for the game into a motivation for life.

He has an NBA dream, so we broke that dream down into actionable pieces. We discussed how a professional athlete needs more than just physical skill—they need leadership, teamwork, and communication. To reach the NBA, he needs fluent English and social intelligence. To have a long career, he needs a foundation of health and injury prevention.

Under his mother’s guidance, Noah’s "big dream" became a series of tangible goals, fostering exceptional self-management. Now nine years old, Noah designs his own schedules. He manages his nutrition, stays focused in class, and even on weekends, he maintains a balanced schedule of reading, outdoor time and sleep.

In the world of competitive sports, losses are inevitable. When asked about defeat, Noah’s perspective is remarkably mature: "You either win or you learn. Beating a weak opponent doesn't teach you much, but losing to a strong one gives you the experience to play better next time." This composure makes him the "anchor" of his team and cherishes every second in the court.

During the GBA Cup, Noah led his team to a 15-point comeback, a feat that drew a standing ovation from the crowd.
At BBSG, sports are viewed as a vital arena for character building. Students gain more than physical fitness; they develop grit, sportsmanship, and the kind of bonding that only comes from shared struggle.

Boarding Diary:
The Influence of Friendship
At the start of Grade 3, Noah decided to join boarding. While his mother initially hoped it would foster independence, the term yielded surprises no one expected. Noah didn't just adapt; he thrived, even sharing his "Boarding Diary" with his classmates:
Living at school, I can sleep until 7:00 AM and have a relaxed breakfast without rushing for the bus. After school, I have free time to play football or basketball with boarders from other year groups. If I finish my chores quickly in the evening, I have time to chat with the teachers or play board games before bed.
— Noah

His enthusiasm was infectious. Soon, his best friends joined the boarding community. For Noah, the structured boarding schedule isn't a restriction—it’s a tool for efficiency. He usually finishes his homework well within the 45-minute evening prep session, using the remaining time to complete his Reading Deposit Book.

From personal independence to social influence, Noah’s reflective nature and desire to share have given him ample "social energy." Even when friction arises between friends, he is quick to reconcile, mending fences often before a teacher even needs to step in.

Parent Voice:
Unleash the Power of Purpose
While many see Noah as the "model child," his mother knows best about all the "detours" and the effort behind his success.

"Raising a child is a process of alignment between home and school," she recalls. When Noah first joined Grade 1, he sometimes lost focus in class because he had already previewed the material. His mother immediately stopped his tutoring programmes, working with teachers to foster better learning habits. When he struggled with careless mistakes, his homeroom teacher back then, Ms. Maya Zhang, would patiently help him break down each word and encourage "progress over perfection." After each basketball game, his PE teacher, Mr. Romain Lemaitre, was always the first to offer a word of encouragement…

In the BBSG faculty, Noah’s mother found professionalism, warmth, and patience. BBSG’s philosophy and approach allow a child to move at their own pace, ensuring they walk with confidence.
Thriving in this environment of trust, Noah has become a top-tier student with a standout specialty. His mother has also stepped up, joining the BBSG Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Food Committee, acting as a bridge between the school and the parent community. She is leading by example, showing Noah how to use one's influence to make a positive impact on the world around them.
Parenting Tips from Noah's Mom
I used to joke that I used Noah’s basketball dream to 'manage' him. When he was younger, I did manage every detail of his education. But after three years at BBSG, I’ve realised that his perspective, his knowledge, and the world he interacts with have far exceeded my expectations. Now, I wouldn't dare try to plan his life for him.

When a child possesses both the ability to choose and the competence to succeed in any path, the world becomes their playground. This is the goal of Future-Ready Complete Education—and the shared hope of every parent and BBSG.
