Welcoming the new term in the Year of Dragon
23 Feb 2024
In the celebration of the Lunar New Year traditions, the BBSG community welcomed the new term in the season of vigour and blossom.
The campus is immersed in the celebration of the Lantern Festival with red lanterns and couplets. Teachers have also decorated the classrooms and boarding house for the new term, welcoming all students back to school for the new term.
Flag raising ceremony: New expectations for the new term
We held the first flag-raising ceremony of the term in the theatre.
The principals extended best wishes for the new year and set new expectations for all students.
Dr Wang Dianjun, Chief School Supervisor and Honourable Principal, also voiced three expectations for students, “firstly, please stay focused on every occasion and develop a good learning habit; secondly, do continue to engage in sports activities for physical well-being, and more importantly, nurture resilience and the spirit of hard-working; last but not least, think actively, be innovative, to become a person with sharp mind, healthy body and well-rounded personalities”.
Ms Louisa Shen, the Chinese Principal, said, “In Chinese culture, Chinese people are the descendants of the dragon, which embodies courage and resilience while facing challenges, can conquer enemies with talents and solid competencies, as well as sets a good example for always reaching out to help others with empathy. We wish all students can uphold BBSG’s values of Courage, Talent, and Empathy, which are consistent with the spirit and quality of the dragon, and achieve great success in both academic studies and personal growth.”
The principals’ speeches have inspired BBSG students to be courageous for any new challenge in the new term. Students responded with confidence and determination not only for the expectations, but also for their new goals in the term.
Hi! My “old pals” and “new buddies”
The campus became full and busy again with all the students back.
In the classrooms, there were rounds of applause to welcome new students and new teachers. On the sports fields, BBSG athletes are back on the tracks, having fun with each other. Teaching and learning activities resumed, and boarding students have returned to their home-from-home, sharing their fun stories in the winter holidays.
This term the school also welcomes new management members with solid backgrounds in education. They are Jakub Peciak, Academic Principal, Bobby Zhang, Head of Primary and Deputy Head of Moral Education, and Dr Tony CHEN, Director of STEAM Innovation Centre. With them joining the family, the school will further strengthen the school’s academic rigour, as well as introduce more diversified experiences and programmes to students.
Celebrating the Lantern Festival
As the Chinese Lantern Festival happened to be on the first Friday of the new term, our Culture Academy organised a wide range of cultural activities to celebrate the day in advance with the whole BBSG community.
The bustling and tumultuous dragon dance performance added festive vibes and good luck to campus life.
Following the teachers’ instruction, students were excited to make “Yuanxiao”(sweet glutinous rice balls) on their own, which represents a happy reunion in Chinese culture. The challenging riddle activity was popular among students. Everyone was trying to get as many as possible answers. The wish wall is filled with the hopes and aspirations of both teachers and students for the future.
Although it is the beginning of the new term, we have every confidence that the BBSG community will continue our hard work with purpose, and progress with solid steps together, paving ways for the future success of every student.
