"Participating in the competition was a challenge for me, allowing me to demonstrate my talents under pressure and fostering greater confidence in my future pursuit of Mathematics."

At BBSG, the Mathematics Department focuses not only on cultivating students’ comprehensive skills in the subject, such as number crunching, abstract thinking, logical reasoning, analogical association and spatial imagination, but also encourages students to enhance their courage to challenge themselves and to develop the spirit of teamwork.

Our Maths teachers put great efforts into designing every lesson, leveraging their rich experience and solid teaching abilities, as well as their throughout knowledge of integrated Maths curricula. Graduating from prestigious universities from around the world, such as the University of Manchester, the University of Sydney and Tsinghua University, they have excellent academic achievements too. Ms He, Head of Mathematics, is the co-writer the ICTM  (Indiana Comprehensive Mathematics Competition Exam for the State of Indiana, USA)  , and has been awarded the Outstanding Coach for the AMC, UKMT and Kangaroo Maths Competitions. In addition, teachers will further support the students in co-curricular activities and competitions for Maths, broaden their horizons, enhancing students’ holistic development.

Students can prepare for international mathematics competitions through the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme. However, the goal is not merely to achieve awards, but to further develop their logical reasoning and critical thinking, enhance their ability to solve mathematical problems and apply mathematical concepts, and expand their international perspective, thereby increasing their love for the subject. Moreover, the experience and achievement can serve as a personal highlight for future university applications.

For Prince H and Jason H, it was challenging to take part in the AMC for the first time. In the intense 40-minute exam competing with young mathematicians from across the globe, they solved questions which were significantly divergent from their regular tests or exams at school.  But they rose to the challenge and took home the global awards for their solid knowledge of the subject, their ingenious problem-solving and application skills, and their quick logical reasoning.

The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), annually draws over 300,000 students from over 6,000 schools worldwide, establishing it as one of the most influential competitions in youth mathematics globally. It is frequently regarded as the epitome of international math competitions. It serves as a pivotal criterion for applicant evaluation by esteemed institutions like Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In the competition, our students not only enhanced their mathematical skills but also earned international recognition from authoritative global institutions. At the same time, we also aspire for students to cultivate a deep passion for mathematics and delight in exploring its mysteries.
