World Scholar's Cup:

Top Challenge for Top Scholars

The annual World Scholar's Cup is a celebration of knowledge for young scholars worldwide. After competing in regional and global rounds, the best scholars converge at Yale University for the final competition. The World Scholar's Cup covers six major subjects: Science and Technology, Social Studies, History, Arts and Music, Literature and Media, and a special area. The competition format is diverse, consisting of four events:

The Scholar’s Challenge assesses the depth of knowledge and answering strategies.

The Scholar’s Bowl features timed team responses that assess immediate knowledge recall.

Collaborative Writing requires groups to work together and compose an essay on a specific theme.

Team Debate involves intense exchanges of viewpoints in which participants defend their opinions with logic and eloquence.

The Guangzhou event, spanning two days, was a rigorous academic marathon that tested scholars' knowledge, communication skills, and teamwork. Scholars who succeeded in multiple subjects exhibited exceptional talent. Hayden L and Alice L from BBSG made a strong impression in their first competition, securing spots among the eight participants in the Debate Showcase from over 180 scholars.

In the Debate Showcase, scholars have only 15 minutes to prepare for a competitive thematic debate. The progression of arguments and logical exchanges allowed participants to enjoy the thrill of intellectual competition.

I was really nervous during the Debate Showcase, my hands were shaking. However, it felt amazing to counter the opposing viewpoints. Our team members were quite outgoing. Even though we didn’t know each other before, we quickly organised ourselves, discussed each person's key points and planned how to rebut the other side's arguments.

Alice L received the award for the highest overall score in the Scholar’s Challenge, among eight other team and individual awards.

BBSG as Host School:

Academic Exchange on a Global Stage

Before this event, two BBSG students participated in the Haikou regional round, where they achieved commendable results and advanced to the global round. (Click to find more details)

By hosting the World Scholar's Cup Guangzhou Regional Round, we encourage more students to challenge themselves on a global stage. Throughout the preparation process, students broadened their knowledge, honed their verbal and written communication skills, and strengthened their teamwork abilities. Throughout the competition, they got the opportunity to interact with scholars from across the country, expanding their international perspectives, showcasing their talents, and gaining valuable competition experience.

The topics in the competition were very broad, extending beyond the specified subjects. I believe I need to improve my time management and knowledge accumulation to better prepare for the next round.

Meanwhile, we saw BBSG volunteers working enthusiastically at the event, assisting with parent guidance, venue setup, process support, and logistics, demonstrating great leadership and commitment. We appreciate their efforts in making the WSC at BBSG a resounding success.
