BBSG’s Inaugural Student Council
18 Apr 2024
At BBSG, we aim to develop students' leadership and collaboration skills beyond classroom learning.
We hope that students, as integral members of the school community, will actively advocate for themselves, their peers, and the entire community.
We also encourage students to proactively organise meaningful activities and projects to foster communication and collaboration, thereby enhancing the cohesion of the school community.
Student Council Election
With this purpose in mind, we organised our inaugural Student Council election. After taking some time to make up their minds for the election and to prepare for it, nearly 20 students from Junior Secondary confidently stood on the stage to compete for the available positions.
“I would like to inspire more students to explore their interests and passions at BBSG, and develop their talents."
——Kate J, G6
“The vision for the Student Council is to make sure every voice is valued, every talent is recognised, and each passionate student can inspire others. I am dedicated to bringing this vision to life."
——Dora L, G7
“I am committed to embodying the values of dedication, friendship, and perseverance as I would dive into a range of community service endeavours. Through this experience, I look forward to honing my skills and supporting others.”
——Holly H, G5
Each candidate delivered a speech, highlighting their leadership skills and past experiences.
Candidates delivering speeches
As the audience with voting rights, teachers and students raised challenging and practical questions, addressing topics such as managing diverse opinions among students, resolving conflicts between the students and the school leadership team, and strategies for increasing student engagement at school events.
These questions represented the actual challenges that the Student Council team may face once they are onboard, also valuable opportunities for them to learn and enhance their skills through ongoing problem-solving practice. These valuable skills will prove to be immensely critical for their future development in the university and the real-world life.
After the speeches were completed, Junior Secondary students, teachers, key-stage leaders, and the school senior leadership team cast their votes based on the performance of each candidate. Finally, the members of our first Student Council were announced.
