BBSG World Book Week
11 May 2024
Reading is dreaming with open eyes.
阅读是穿梭于不同梦境的旅程。
If you were to earn money based on the time you spent reading, how wealthy would you be?
If you had the opportunity to live the life of a book character, who would you choose?
If you were asked to recommend the best book you've ever read, what would it be?
BBSG celebrated the 2024 World Book Day through a series of Book Week activities organised by the Chinese and English Departments, along with our Library. These diverse activities provided students with numerous opportunities to delve into the vast ocean of books and wisdom, share their love for reading, experience life as book characters, and even explore the realm of writing.
Celebrate Our Reading Journey
At BBSG, reading is an integral part of our daily routine. The Book Week celebration served as the icing on the cake, showcasing the progress and achievements of students' reading habits throughout the academic year.
During the Book Bazaar, students had the chance to donate their old books and purchase second-hand ones. It resembled a book flea market, but the BBSG dollars used for purchases came from their "Reading Time Bank," which encouraged a healthy daily reading habit since the beginning of the academic year.
Another lively event was the Middle School Battle of the Books, hosted by the Secondary Chinese department. Students worked together as teams, reading books that went beyond their regular curriculum, and competing with their classmates. This not only broadened their reading choices but also fostered friendly competition within the class, pushing them out of their comfort zones.
Our Primary and Junior Secondary Battle of the Books team competed with other GBA schools
Talents to Shine
Sharing the Passion for Reading
Regardless of whether students excel in drawing, writing, or public speaking, there were opportunities for them to share their reading experiences, achievements, and passion through various forms of expression.
Unleash your costume talents on the one and only Book Character Day.
How can we creatively demonstrate that reading is everywhere?
Students shared their reading recommendations through visually captivating displays at the Reading Poster Exhibition.
You have a story? I have a mic! Students broadcasted their favourite stories on BBSG radio, appreciating the diversity of languages, cultures, and storytelling traditions.
Meet the Authors, what's the story behind a book?
Through visually, verbally, and creatively sharing their insights, students not only inspired their peers but also promoted reading diversity, encouraging others to explore new genres and authors.
Reading Extends Beyond the Book Week
Congratulations to the stars of our Book Week activities. Keep reading!
"BBSG recognises reading as the cornerstone of students' learning and is committed to promoting reading and developing language skills in vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking, and writing, be it in Chinese or English.
The primary purpose of BBSG Book Week is to remind students of their rights as readers. Every child has his unique way to connect with books. We encourage them to find that connection through diverse and multi-sensory activities and eventually enjoy the socialization and joy in reading.
We believe in the power of time and habit to shape lifelong readers."
