Passion Time:The Time BBSG Students Enjoy Most
24 May 2024
Every Tuesday, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, BBSG hosts a dedicated 'Passion Time' period. During this hour, students have the opportunity to participate in various club activities, allowing them to explore and develop their interests. And it becomes the time when BBSG students enjoy most.
As the leader of the Handicraft Club, Angel H. from Grade 6, along with her club members, is deeply immersed in creating their favourite cartoon characters using LEGO, clay, and paper cutting techniques. In their skilled hands, the clay almost seems magical, as they bring various creations to life.
BBSG is home to 10 student clubs, encompassing a wide range of interests. These include the Biology Technology Club, Bakery Club, History Club, Business Club, Soccer Club, Dance Club, and the CSI (Crime Scene Investigation Learning) Club.
While the topics of these clubs may vary, they all share one common feature: they attract groups of like-minded peers united by their shared passions.
Let’s take a tour and visit a few clubs today!

If you stumble upon an empty classroom where several students are intently gathered on the floor, engrossed in examining insects and soil, you've likely found the Biology Club. Inside, you'll discover a fascinating collection that includes lizards, fighting fish, succulents, and 'air pineapple' plants.
Dorothy X, a seventh grader, is an active member of the Biology Club, where she collaborates with her club leader, Leeson L. Together, they are constructing an ecological tank that enhances their understanding of biology. Recently, they had the opportunity to closely observe the remarkable regeneration process of a lizard's tail—an experience that vividly illustrated the wonders of biological growth.
Leeson L has proposed an exciting project for the Biology Club: the creation of a biology-themed comic book. This collaborative effort aims to present the knowledge the members have acquired in a highly engaging and entertaining format. Moreover, it will provide an opportunity for them to hone their drawing and communication skills.

Janice L, a sixth grader and an avid fan of the TV series 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,' proudly leads the CSI Club at BBSG.
During her first meeting as leader, Janice L encountered an unexpected challenge: the majority of the CSI Club applicants were primary school students, much younger than she anticipated. Initially expecting to collaborate with peers her own age, Janice quickly adapted to her new role, taking charge of the younger group with enthusiasm.
Despite the initial surprise, Janice maintained an impressively open-minded attitude and adapted swiftly. Now, every Tuesday, she leads her club members through the analysis of a case or a relevant news event. This regular activity sharpens their reasoning skills and expands their legal knowledge, fostering a collaborative and enriching learning environment.
In preparation for her club meetings, Janice works diligently under the guidance of the supervising teacher. She meticulously gathers information, screens and edits videos to ensure all materials are appropriate and convey positive messages. Additionally, Janice breaks down the storylines of the selected videos, crafts questions at various difficulty levels, prepares engaging presentations, and continuously refines the content to enrich her club members' experience.
The atmosphere in the CSI Club is vibrant and engaging. 'In our meetings, everyone is actively engaged and eager to analyse and discuss cases together,' Janice explains. She thoroughly enjoys this 'Passion Time,' which has significantly boosted her confidence.

Pound cakes, chocolate cookies, pizza, scones, milkshakes... The Bakery Club is an irresistible experience that captivates not just your nose but all your senses. It was already a hit during the signup period.
With guidance from Ms Li, the club's supervising teacher, Shaun C, a sixth grader and the club leader, drafted an initial agreement to regulate behavior and ensure the safe use of cooking equipment by all club members.
To foster a greater sense of participation among club members, they rotate the role of 'Chef on Duty' each week. This chef is responsible for planning the recipe and coordinating with the school cafeteria to secure the necessary materials and tools for the session. On cooking days, tasks are distributed among members, who collaborate on both the cooking process and the cleanup afterwards. Additionally, members maintain a cooking journal, documenting each recipe and reflecting on the results, which enhances their learning and allows them to track their culinary progress.
Ms Li is immensely proud of the Bakery Club's progress, particularly noting the members' enhanced coordination, communication, and writing skills. "They can work independently and communicate effectively to complete all tasks,' she remarks. 'Throughout the process, they have also developed strong relationships and a true sense of community within the cohort."
Shaun shared his insight with us, likening baking to an adventure: "Sometimes, baking is like opening a blind box; you never know what taste will emerge from the combination of ingredients. So just take the chance and try!"
During this dedicated hour, the students fully immerse themselves in their passions, reaping the rewards of their pursuits. Passion meets purpose, creating a nurturing environment where we hope this love for what they do will inspire continuous growth and progress.
