High Table Dinner: Our Magical Founding Year
18 Jul 2024
Every child dreams of being a wizard -
Donning a robe, boarding the special Express from Platform 9¾, and entering a castle-like campus.
In the last week of school, BBSG brought this magic to life, creating an unforgettable experience for students and staff alike.
Our castle-like main building welcomed young wizards and witches in their finest robes for BBSG's first-ever High Table Dinner - "BBSG Inaugural Cohort Appreciation Dinner - The Magical Founding Year."
Students put "Encouragement Letters" in the mailbox, sending magical surprises to their schoolmates.

A New BBSG Tradition:
High Table Dinner
The High Table Dinner, originating from prestigious British institutions like Oxford and Cambridge, is a formal dining event regularly held by schools and colleges during significant occasions such as graduation, anniversaries, or the end of the academic year. The name derives from the prominent table traditionally set for school leaders and distinguished guests.
A distinctive feature of High Table Dinners is their status as formal social occasions, with specific etiquette governing both the dining process and the event's unique characteristics. By implementing this educational experience, BBSG aimed to equip students with crucial etiquette and social skills for future academic and professional settings, enabling them to confidently navigate global stages and forge cross-cultural friendships.
In preparation, students participated in etiquette classes before the event.
Celebrating Talents and Achievements in our Houses
Under the grand banners of BBSG's four Houses (Ziwei, Ginkgo, Wutong and Kapok), students eagerly participated in and cheered for their Houses during the inter-house Trivia Challenge.
Eight lucky students won a special "Lunch with the Principal" prize after a thrilling contest.
The evening's highlight was the "Pink Slip" awards ceremony, recognising students who best embodied BBSG's eight Core Values and earned the most "Pink Slips" and House points. The hall resonated with applause as top achievers received awards from school leaders and special guests.
Following auditions, talented BBSG students took the stage, filling the hall with laughter, song, and applause.
Key Elements of Growth
Friendship, Courage and Love
In her closing speech, BBSG's Chinese Principal, Ms. Louisa Shen, emphasised three key characteristics exemplified by Harry, Ron, and Hermione: friendship, courage, and love. These elements not only make the Harry Potter series a classic but also formed the most cherished memories of the BBSG inaugural community.
Just like Harry arrived at the boarding school of magic with curiosity and excitement, embarking on a journey of growth and adventure, BBSG's founding students have, over the past year, forged friendships, acquired knowledge, showcased their talents, overcome challenges, and experienced significant personal growth.
As the orange sunset marked the dinner's end, the magic lingered. In our students, we saw the COURAGE of Gryffindor, the TALENT of Ravenclaw, the LEARNING of Hufflepuff, and the PURPOSE of Slytherin. These values form the foundation of BBSG's unique "DNA" and will continue to guide our community as we write our next exciting chapter.
