GBA VEX Competition at BBSG
07 Apr 2024
In late March, BBSG co-hosted the 2024 Greater Bay Area International School VEX Robotics Engineering Challenge. In the intense competition involving over 40 teams, the BBSG VEX Robotics School teams took on the challenge and won another three awards.
The Winning Teams!
The competition was organised by the iSTEMn, the organising committee of the Asia Open Championship. Nearly 400 participants from bilingual and international schools such as BASIS, Macau Baptist College, Pui Ching Middle School in Macau, CMA Choi Cheung Kok Secondary School in Hong Kong, Singapore International School (Hong Kong), Guangdong Country Garden School, Nord Anglia etc., met at BBSG. Students competed at Junior and Senior levels and after qualification competitions it’s the final match to determine Champions of each level with multiple individual awards.
BBSG VEX teams devoted themselves in the home game, with all five teams advancing to the finals. Our all-girls team displayed remarkable consistency and rewrote the team's history by securing a well-deserved third place in the final competition. Although our Secondary team regretfully missed out on the championship in the finals, their engineering notebook submission stood out for its rich content and rigorous logic. It fully showcased the team's journey from inception to execution, highlighting their systematic engineering mindset and practical abilities, and were honoured with the Judges' Award.

BBSG VEX School Teams – Rising Stars in the Youth Robotics Competitions
This recent victory is just another jewel in the crown for BBSG VEX School Team. Earlier this academic year, they showcased their prowess at the 2023-2024 VEX Robotics Asia Open West China VRC, where they brought home the Tournament Champions of both Primary and Junior Secondary categories.

Mr Guo, the BBSG STEAM Innovation Lead, expressed his immense pride in our VEX school team, stating,
"Our VEX school team consists of talented students who have undergone a rigorous selection process. In their daily training, students devote considerable time to studying the competition rules and analysing classic case studies. They ensure that their designs align with the season's theme, and meticulously optimise their prototypes to achieve the highest level of performance.
Throughout the previous season, both the Primary and Secondary teams improved significantly in enhancing their teamwork, embodying a spirit of resilience regardless of victory or defeat. I have complete confidence in their ability to overcome any challenge, be it in preparation, communication, or the fiercely competitive arena of the competitions."
Unleashing the Global Hit: VEX Robotics Competitions
VEX Robotics World Championship is also called the "Robot Olympics." It’s one of the most influential robotics events on the planet, attracting millions of participants from over 40 countries worldwide.
The intensity of the battles and the dazzling display of skills also make VEX competitions a spectacle to behold. The breathless tension, the fierce combat, the meticulous coordination, and the precise control, all erupt in cheers of joy or regret in the last second of the final whistle.
BBSG is proud to host the event to show our effort in harnessing resources from the Greater Bay Area and provide opportunities for BBSG students to not only enhance their STEAM mindset and hands-on skills but also forge lifelong friendships with peers who share a passion for robotics and be well-prepared to lead in a technology-driven future.
